BRIDGING THE AUDIO GAP BETWEEN THE U.S. AND LATIN AMERICA

The History of AudioGraph International

Until recently, most Spanish-speaking television productions and music recordings were created solely in American cities. With their excellent audio facilities, Los Angeles, Miami and New York reigned supreme. However, in the last few years, this trend has changed.

Once exclusively marketed to the English-speaking consumer, audio technology has now opened its door to the populated centers of Buenos Aires, San Paulo, Bogota, and Mexico City. High-end Latin American studios, facilities employing the latest in audio technology are growing steadily. Spanish recordings and productions are now taking place throughout Latin America & Spain resulting in final projects ready for consumption.

However, Latin American audio professionals, studio personnel and audio manufacturers are still finding a challenge in acquiring suitable training, equipment documentation and technology. Enter AudioGraph International. The brainchild of Jose "Chilitos" Valenzuela, an audio design engineer, author and studio professional.

After publishing his first book in 1991, entitled Descubriendo MIDI, several companies approached Chilitos wanting translations of technical documentation for their equipment. Recognizing a great need in the Latin pro audio community, he decided to expand his efforts to provide Spanish-language educational resources and with this inspired idea AudioGraph International was born.

Putting his expertise into AGI would not only provide an opportunity for Spanish-speaking audio professionals to learn the latest in technology, but it would also allow Pro Audio & Instrument manufacturers to communicate their products more effectively to their rapidly growing Spanish-speaking consumers.

Today, AudioGraph International has expanded into a multifaceted enterprise. AGI provides technical translation services for a number of Instrument and Pro Audio manufacturers, and is a bilingual Pro Audio training center, including Pro Tools authorized by Digidesign. In addition, AGI's new production company is dedicated to producing Spanish/English musical acts as well as soundtrack/commercial scoring and post-production projects.

AudioGraph has successfully grown in the last nine years and with the forthcoming "The Complete Pro Tools Handbook" by Jose "Chilitos" Valenzuela, AGI looks forward to finding new ways to bridge the audio gap worldwide.

Audio Graph International would also like to thank the following manufacturers & professionals for their continuous & generous support: Digidesign, Euphonix, Apogee Electronics, Avalon Designs, Audio-Technica, Mackie Designs, Fostex, Korg, OmniRax, Westlake Audio, Lexicon, Steinberg, JL Cooper, Line 6, Alesis, Summit Audio, A.D.A.M., Speck Electronics, Meyer Sound, Roland, T.C. Electronic, Requisite, SLS, Shure Brothers, and Genelec among others

About George Friederich Händel:
George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759)
George Friederich Händel was born in 1685, a vintage year indeed for baroque composers, in Halle on the Saale river in Thuringia, Germany on February 23rd.

George Frideric Handel (1685 - 1759)
From Germany to England – via Italy.

Though his father had intended him for the law, Handel's own musical inclinations seem always to have been clear to him. At the age of 18, in 1703, he traveled to Hamburg, where he took a job as a violinist at the Hamburg Opera and gave private lessons to support himself. He became acquainted with Johann Mattheson (who later chronicled the known events of Handel's life during his stay there) and together they visited Buxtehude in Lübeck in that first year. In the new year Handel's first two operas were produced, Almira and Nero.

Whilst in Hamburg, Handel made the acquaintance of Prince Ferdinando de' Medici, son and heir of the Grand Duke of Tuscany, who invited Handel to visit Italy where he spent more than three years, in Florence, Rome, Naples and Venice. By 1706 he had reached Rome, where Marquis (later Prince) Francesco Ruspoli employed him as a household musician and where most of Handel's major Italian works were composed. This visit was significant; baroque music, like that of any period, has its musical clichés, and much that is typical of baroque music can be traced back to Italy and particularly to Corelli, with whom Handel had studied. The influence of Italy was to show itself in Handel's lifetime preoccupation with opera – as well as Italian operatic "stars". His Concerti Grossi too, bear witness to the influence of Italy and Corelli.

Italy was a great center of musical activity particularly during the first 20 years of the 1700s, and Handel was to meet and exchange ideas with many of the leading composers, musicians and nobility of the time - and not only Italians, for it was obligatory for every cultural and music-loving person of any rank or nobility to do the Grand European Tour which naturally included the main Italian cultural centers. Thus on his travels around Italy Handel also made a number of useful contacts including the Duke of Manchester, the English Ambassador, and most significantly Prince Ernst August of Hanover, brother of the Elector (later King George I of England) who pressed him to visit Hanover. The Prince may also have intimated the possibility of a post at the Hanoverian court, for when Handel left Italy early in 1710 it was for Hanover, where he was in fact appointed Capellmeister to the Elector, George Louis, who immediately packed him off on a twelve months' leave of absence to visit England. The Royal Houses of Britain and Germany had always been closely inter-related, and the Act of Settlement of 1701 which secured the Protestant succession to the Crown of England, had made Handel's Hanoverian employer George Louis' mother heiress-presumptive to the throne of Great Britain. Thus the Elector George Louis would have been anxious to have Handel spy out the land and report back to him on the London musical, social and political scene.

During this first London visit, lasting eight months, Handel was favorably received at Queen Anne's court, though his eyes were largely set on Vanburgh's new opera house, the Queen's Theatre in the Haymarket. Rinaldo, the first Italian opera specially composed for London, was performed there in 1711 and was a sensational success. Returning only briefly to Hanover in 1711, Handel was back in London by 1712 when he was invited to produce an English Court Ode for Queen Anne's birthday. The Queen normally took little interest in her composers, being (according to the Duke of Manchester) ''too busy or too careless to listen to her own band, and had no thought of hearing and paying new players however great their genius or vast their skill''. It is surprising, therefore, that she granted Handel a pension of £200 a year for life.

But the Queen's health deteriorated, and by September 1714 Britain had a new monarch. Thus it was that George Louis, Elector of Hanover and already naturalized by Act of Parliament in 1705, became King George I of England, initiating the Royal House of Hanover. One of the first engagements for the new George I was to attend morning service at the Chapel Royal where ''a Te Deum was sung, composed by Mr Handel" - and Handel's position with the new ruler appears to have been secured. In addition to his royal duties for King and Court – his 'Caroline' Te Deum was performed by the Chapel Royal musicians at the king's first royal engagement – Handel became music master to the princesses, for whom he may well have composed the keyboard suites subsequently published in 1720. In the summer of 1717 the king requested a concert on the River Thames and Handel was commissioned to write 'Water Music', for wind and strings. With members of the court and musicians accommodated in barges, the evening's entertainment went on until the early hours of the morning.

Dan Sindel Proudly Plays Washburn Guitars

For press release 11.19.07

It's official we can now say "Dan Sindel Proudly Plays Washburn Guitars"
Dan Sindel Proudly Plays Washburn Guitars

Dan states: "I love the playability of Washburn Guitars, I have used the WD32SCE extensively on my upcoming CD and it is such a pleasure to record with, the sound is warm and resonant and the low profile neck makes it very easy to perform very intricate passages with ease, I am quite honored to be part of the Washburn "family of artists" and look forward to great things in the future..!

Washburn History
Some stories demand to be told. Others are simply content on being heard. Heard through music, through lyrics, through a cultural revolution. This is the story of Washburn Guitars.

Steeped in the tradition of fine instrument making, Washburn Guitar’s dynamic 120-history began in Chicago in 1883. The original guitar factory was located just blocks away from Maxwell Street.

In the early 1920s, Maxwell Street itself would emerge as the epicenter of a musical movement. Often considered the first entry point for thousands of African-Americans arriving from the Mississippi Delta, Maxwell Street became a hotbed for Delta Blues in its most raw and dramatic form. Newcomers and established musicians alike would listen and jam with one another in an atmosphere void of commercial influence. Once recorded, this powerful, emotional style of music would not only become the dominant form of blues but would radically change the emerging sound of rock and roll.

There, on Maxwell Street, as well as in alleyways, city sidewalks, bars, and honky-tonks around the country, Washburn guitars were embraced as the very embodiment and reflective spirit of the hard-working musicians who played them as well as the employees who designed and crafted them. It is the same spirit that guides Washburn to this day.

The history of Washburn Guitars is the history of a wide range of musicians. From blues players who shaped rock ‘n roll to multi-platinum recording artists to emerging guitar virtuosos. It is a history that can be heard and experienced every time you turn on the radio or listen to a live performance. It is a history built by skilled craftsmen and musicians who share one common love–a passion for the guitar.

Washburn continues to be a consistent leader in combining design, innovation, and technology to deliver the rich, bold sounds for a vast musical landscape.

Dan Sindel - added to the Godin Guitars endorsees

Dan Sindel Proudly Plays Godin Guitars

It is very exciting news as Dan Sindel has been added to the illustrious list of Godin Guitar endorsees as Dan has been extensively using the Multiac ACS-SA Slim on his upcoming Independent release "Marching In" a tribute to the March King - John Philip Sousa.

Dan states: "I love the playability of the Multiac Nylon; the range of tones I have been achieving through this instrument are just OUTSTANDING. It performs with style, beauty and grace whether I am recording direct or through a myriad of different amps.
The slim neck is just right for players who are mostly used to playing their electrics and I am just thrilled that the company believes in me as an artist."

Carmen Rizzo onboard to mix Dan Sindel "Marching In"

For Press Release: 9/20/07

Carmen Rizzo onboard to mix Dan Sindel "Marching In"..!
In an unprecedented move, multi-platinum, two-time Grammy nominee producer/engineer extrodinaire Carmen Rizzo agrees to add his talents in helping Dan in his debut CD effort "Marching In" - A tribute to the March King, John Philip Sousa.

CarmenRizzo_EM

Dan states: "I was reading the August edition of Electronic Musician and was taken in by Carmen's cover story and somewhere in the article he said "I'm the sort of person to go to when somebody wants be edgy or a little bit different" and I just sat there and laughed thinking if he was not talking directly about me and my crazy projects... nobody is!!! So I mustered up the courage to contact Carmen, found his website and formulated an email asking if he would be interested in investigating what I do with the 'Symphonic Guitars' and would he be willing to talk to me about mixing a few tracks for my CD...
The very next day I had a reply to my email and I nearly 'fell out of my chair' when Carmen agreed to talk to me... Needless to say, I was stunned that he would give me the time of day especially if you take a look at his list of credits and discography. I am humbled and honored to have been given the opportunity to work with Carmen and as of this writing we are working on a few tracks and they sound AMAZING!!! I am very excited to be able to share the music soon enough!"

SouthSide on the Town - Dan Sindel Interview

SouthSide on the Town
Dan Sindel Interview

fearless radio

Hey, Fearless fans, SouthSide’s a enjoying much need vacation in LA soaking up some California rays on Venice Beach. However it was not all fun for this reviewer because she was there to snag another exclusive interview her good friend, Dan Sindel. This talented musician granted SouthSide an all-access glimpse at “what’s new and happening” since his last interview over a year ago. Currently, Dan Sindel has been making quite a name for himself y breathing new life into such classical compositions like Mozart’s String Quartet No1 K80 Menuetto and Shubert’s Serenade. With his unique interpretation of these pieces, Sindel is able to introduce a new genre of music called Symphonic Guitar because it is recreated from his vast collection of electric guitars. So far Sindel’s talent has certainly caught the eye of important people in the music scene. For instance, over the year Sindel’s music gained some airplay on Australian radio station, Bay FM 99.9. Plus, he has been earning endorsement deals with GHS Strings/Rocktron, Visual Sound and Peterson Tuners over the past few months. Recently as of June 5th he added "Godin Guitars" to the list which he believes has completely changed his status as an independent musician. Sindel states “it is rather astonishing to me how much power is available these days to the Independent Musician through the internet”.

SouthSide: For those who don't understand, can you briefly describe what symphonic guitar music is?

Dan Sidnel Dan Sindel: For those of you not familiar with my concept/vision of “Symphonic Guitars”, what I like to do is transpose and transcribe Orchestral Scores to fit the guitars tonal range, layering guitar tracks, creating a massive electric guitar "Wall of Sound". Honestly, “Symphonic Guitars” as a term has been around quite some time and as far as I know has many different meanings depending on who you talk to, whether it is the inclusion of a nylon stringed guitar in an orchestra or a small string ensemble or leanings towards what might be also called “Solo Guitar”. I certainly did not coin the phrase nor am I the first to venture into this given style or train of thought if you will.

Southside: Are you finding that there's a loyal fan base now in your music genre?

Dan Sindel: I would have to emphatically say “YES”, although as far as what I am doing with the Symphonic Guitars, although this is just one side of my musical vocabulary and I love sitting around and transposing and transcribing various classical scores, recreating each line written for a specific instrument with only guitar tracks but I also love playing in a band environment as well. I grew up playing in bands and have had the opportunity to support and share the stage with such national acts as Wendy O. Williams, King Diamond, Armored Saint, Grim Reaper, Racer X, Flotsam & Jetsam etc… during the golden days of the 80’s LA Metal scene! As it stands (which is very funny to me) a lot of people are finding me on the net due to the youtube phenomenon of Jerry C. playing Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major called “Canon Rock”. One of the first scores I recorded was in fact the Canon and it is much closer to a string quintet’s interpretation rather than going into hyper mode and rocking it out. Many others are learning of Symphonic Guitar’s through my variations of “Excerpts From Handel’s Messiah”, “Danny Boy” (aka Londonderry Air) as well as “Vivaldi’s Four Seasons – The Spring”. Bottom line, I am just having fun creating the music and learning more about home recording and I’m especially happy to know so many fine folks are enjoying what I am doing!

SouthSide: What do you attribute to the increasing interest in symphonic guitar music?

Dan Sindel:
That is hard to answer; I really don’t know to be quite honest. Perhaps in the fact that is different and way out in left field. (LOL) I can only speak through my filter and am pretty tired of the state of affairs we are in regarding what the labels are churning out, Some of the stuff you hear on the radio is a direct insult to ones intelligence and to be frank, is pretty lame and no better than a ridiculous TV commercial. It is crafted for only one thing, a fast buck, based on demographics and formulas and through the deceptive art of repetition these silly songs get stuck in our heads ad nauseum. Perhaps people are searching for things that are novel and unique that truly comes from an artist’s heart not an executive’s directive! I see the Indie movement as a new renaissance and there is some fabulous music out there!

SouthSide: In your opinion, is there a place for symphonic guitar music within the traditional classical music?

Dan Sindel: Yes I do believe there is a place set aside for Symphonic Guitar music. I do not foresee interpretations of our favorite classical compositions embodying hundreds of guitars making their way into the mainstream and playing on the local classical FM station. Although, I do get quite a bit of email via my website and plenty of comments amidst various websites and the feedback is overwhelmingly positive. It’s in regards to the fact that many a music lover and musician have not heard the songs interpreted in such a method. Plus the attention to detail and emotion is what blows many people away.

SouthSide: Since symphonic guitar music is different from your standard rock music, are you finding it difficult getting any airplay?

Dan Sindel: At this point in the game I am not pushing for airplay, true I have had some airplay but that has been more a “one-off basis” where a few good folks out there in cyberspace liked what I was doing and emailed me for permission to include my music on their playlist, be it an internet radio station or full fledged FM station. Other than “Excerpts From Handel’s Messiah” and “Aeolian” (a Latin Jazz original composition) which I had professionally mixed all my other tracks are still considered rough mixes and need a bit of attention IMHO before I start pushing them in that manner. When my Debut CD is out (hopefully by the end of 2007) let’s revisit this question shall we.

SouthSide: Are there any current projects that you're working on that you can to talk about?

Dan Sindel: Currently I am working very hard on my debut CD “Marching In – A Tribute to the March King, John Philip Sousa”. I am very fortunate in that I was able to get professional drummer extraordinaire Rick Shlosser (whose performance and recording credits include Alice Cooper, Rod Stewart, Van Morrison, Diana Ross, Lionel Ritchie, Cher, Etta James, George Benson, Chuck Berry, Edgar Winter and White Trash, Boz Scaggs and many many more) to join me in the studio and knockout some of Sousa’s most loved marches (including: “Semper Fidelis”, “The Thunderer”, “Washington Post”, “King Cotton”, “The Liberty Bell”, “The Stars and Stripes Forever” as well as Sousa’s arrangement of “The Star Spangled Banner” written for the 1892 Chicago World’s Fair. It is a very exciting project to recreate an entire marching band utilizing hundreds of unique guitar tracks and sometimes it is very hard to tell that you are in fact listening to only guitars.. I am also extremely excited in that as of a few short months ago I had made the acquaintance of Khaliq Glover who is a Grammy Award Winning Recording/Mixing Engineer (Marcus Miller, Quincy Jones, Prince, Herbie Hancock, Justin Timberlake) who has taken an interest in what I am doing and that adds a whole new dynamic and raises the game to a new level. Khaliq’s experience in the field is simply overwhelming and he has helped me better myself as a musician and as an aspiring engineer and I am appreciative of his friendship and guidance. Far beyond that words can express!

SouthSide highly recommends Fearless fans checking out Dan Sindel and his symphonic guitar compositions. For more information about this artist and his music, visit the following links:

Blue Collar Girls

As a matter of fact here is a great photo of me and Tim from July 2006 when Tim came to Los Angeles:
Dan Sindel and Tim Sanders

Tim Sanders Bio:
Every since Tim can remember he’s always had an intense passion for music. Like most he grew up listening to Motown and was truly inspired but what really did it for him were sounds like Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song”, John Coltrane’s version of “My Favorite Things” and the soundtrack of “The Westside Story”. You see his older sisters were the main suppliers of the music he was exposed to early on. As a result Tim was introduced to a healthy myriad not to mention styles of music. Mind you he still grooves to several genres but truth be told at heart he’s a straight up rocker. Originally Tim was homegrown in Philadelphia, PA as for now he’s anchored in Leesburg, VA.“Through internalizing I discovered music as an excellent means of self- expression and a positive outlet for creativity, the rest as they say is history”. Foremost is his guitar; he currently has a Stratocaster and a Takamine G series acoustic. Additionally he plays keyboards, in particular an Alesis QS 6.1. To piece it all together he runs Logic Audio Pro and Reason on his MAC G5 computer. When Tim needs to take “his band” on the road he packs it all up in his iBook. As a rule he doesn’t listen to mainstream artists. All the music he downloads comes from artists that generally speaking most people will never hear. In his opinion, there are TONS of great indie and unsigned stuff on the Net that are just as entertaining if not more so.

**this is the "non" FeedBurner Edition... less talk more music :)

This episode features Pachelbel’s most famous “Canon in D Major” and the beloved traditional Irish Melody “Danny Boy.”

For those of you not familiar with my “Symphonic Guitars” concept, what I like to do is transpose and transcribe Orchestral Scores to fit the guitars tonal range, layering guitar tracks creating a massive electric guitar "Wall of Sound". It’s a lot of work but a lot of fun..!

First up is Johann Pachelbel’s “Canon in D Major”! (no this is not Canon Rock... LOL )
Pachelbel was a German Baroque composer and I have interpreted the string quartet instrumentation with more than 50 multi-track overdubs utilizing Acoustic and electric guitars...

Closing today’s show is the traditional Irish Melody “Danny Boy”! AKA Londonderry Air.
In the second and third sections you will be hearing a culmination of at least 90 tracks of guitar..!

It has been a very busy past few months and I would like to persoanlly Thank GHS/Rocktron, Peterson Tuners, Visual Sound and Godin Guitars for all their wonderful product endorsements and for believing in me as an artist!"

And as always, Thank you for listening and be sure to visit http://www.dansindel.us/ for Symphonic Guitar Driven Classics - Mp3's, Videos and More…

Dan Sindel Proudly Plays Godin Guitars

Dan states: "Godin Guitars are AMAZING..! I am so happy to be part of their 'family of artists' as Godin's level of craftsmanship and aesthetics are just stunning." When I played their instruments at the Winter NAMM Show I was instantly inspired by the high quality, innovative use of technology and history of the company! I am always in search of new tones and the advancements Godin have been making with the integration of MIDI is extremely exciting.
